SWA/Balsley is located in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood with a view to the iconic Empire State Building. We find creative inspiration in our surroundings, and our design of the public realm is informed by our daily experience of the city. For us, it’s personal. We understand streets, parks, and plazas as the places where we take a midday walk, recharge, make a quick phone call, meet up with friends, or unpack a picnic and stay awhile. Many of these same spaces double as the city’s lungs, and some are designed to help the city absorb stormwater. SWA/Balsley has a substantial portfolio of waterfronts, parks, and plazas, with more than 100 in New York City alone.
SWA/Balsley is the successor firm to Thomas Balsley Associates in New York, known for its long history of designing public space in the city. SWA/Balsley principals are also principals of SWA Group, an allied design firm that is 100-percent employee-owned and operates as a network of studios. The SWA/Balsley studio culture has a distinctly New York City vibe.
