Shuyao is passionate about creating breathtaking landscapes that elevate communities and transform urban environments. With 1.5 years of experience in Los Angeles before joining the SWA/Balsley studio in 2021, Shuyao’s innovative approach and unique perspective make her an invaluable asset to the team. She holds a master’s degree in landscape architecture and an urban design certificate from the University of Pennsylvania. Her educational background also includes a bachelor’s degree in architecture from South China University of Technology, giving her a well-rounded understanding of the intricacies of design at different scales.

Shuyao’s creative vision is rooted in her deep appreciation for aesthetics, resilience, and social impact, which she skillfully integrates into her work. She believes that landscape architecture positively transforms the built environment and enhances people’s daily lives. Since joining SWA, Shuyao has been actively involved in projects of varying scales in international locations, ranging from Saudi Arabia and Egypt to China.
